Casey J. Candebat, a native of New Orleans, LA, made his professional operatic debut in 2007 with New Orleans Opera, in their production of La Bohème, with Robert Lyall as conductor. Since then, he has performed supporting roles in Rigoletto, Manon Lescaut, Il Trittico, and La Traviata.
Recently Mr. Candebat has been heard as Pang in Turandot with New Orleans Opera, collaborating with international stars Lise Lindstrom, Roy Cornelius Smith, and Anthony Laciura.
This season, Mr. Candebat joins the roster of Wichita Grand Opera to cover the roles of Ruiz in Il Trovatore and to perform the role of Ernesto in Don Pasquale and the New Orleans Opera to sing the role of the First Jew in Salome.
Future engagements include performing Bernard Rands' piece for tenor and orchestra, Canti del Sole, with Northwestern University Contemporary Ensemble.
Mr. Candebat has been a young artist at Chautauqua Opera in their 2009 and 2010 seasons. There he covered the role of Beppe in Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci. He has also been a young artist at Opera North where he performed in the family performance of Verdi's Falstaff, the role of Dr. Cajus.
Candebat is a 2011 graduate of Northwestern University, as a student of the renowned voice teacher Sunny Joy Langton. At Northwestern he sang the roles of Tamino in The Magic Flute, Lippo Fiorentino in Street Scene, Bégearss in The Ghosts of Versailles, and Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro.
Mr. Candebat has won several prestigious vocal competitions, including the Grand Prize in the Bel Canto Foundation Voice Competition, 2011, third place in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Gulf Coast Regional Auditions, 2011, and the Chautauqua Opera Guild's Encouragement Award, 2010.
Mr. Candebat earned his Bachelor of Music at Loyola University New Orleans. There he performed the role of Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, Pluton in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, The Duke of Plaza-Toro in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers, and Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette. While still a student at Loyola University, New Orleans Opera began casting him in supporting roles. They decided to feature him in Gluck's L'ile de Merlin, in their annual summer performance in combination with the Music @ Madewood Festival.
